That’s right folks! The prayers of 90s kids everywhere will be answered sometime in 2013!! A “Boy Meets World” spin-off sitcom is in the making!
Disney Channel is rumored to be working on casting the new show now and has already sent out breakdowns for the main characters. The new show, said to be titled, “Girl Meets World,” will center around the 13-year-old daughter of Corey and Topanga Matthews. It’s already out that the girl’s name will be Riley and she will have an older brother, 14-year-old Elliot. Also being cast is the role of Riley’s slightly edgy but very loyal best friend, Maya. Hmm… a cute little kid with an older brother and a troubled best friend? That sounds like a recipe for a win! Oh, and did I mention their history teacher is Riley and Elliot’s dad? That’s right! Corey Matthews has become a junior high teacher and Riley and Maya are both his class. If ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?!
The show will supposedly start shooting in February of next year, but there’s no confirmation on the rest of the cast just yet. We at least know that the original Morgan, Lily Nicksay, is on board for the show, but apparently Disney hasn’t approached her about joining her former cast. Danielle Fishel has been teasing Boy Meets World fans with potentially revealing tweets. On November 3 she tweeted, “Just want you guys to know that @BenSavage and I have talked and we’ve decided…Thanksgiving is going to be delicious this year!” Honestly, if Disney thinks they’re going to be able to replace the couple that made us all believe in love they’ve got another thing coming. Better get Danielle and Ben!
So, my opinion on the whole thing? Well, as an actor I’m 100% for it because I sure as hell want to audition for this show! As a Boy Meets World fan I’m a little torn. The synopsis of the show as of now says that it will be focused primarily on the kids. I can totally understand that because it will air on Disney and will supposedly resemble shows like “Good Luck Charlie” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.” My only worry is that ecstatic BMW fans won’t be interested in the lives of Riley and Elliot at all but will be dying to know how Corey, Topanga, Shawn and Eric are doing. I really hope that the show will balance the focus enough so the lives of the now adults on the show will move forward as well.
I think Disney will have a real winner here as long as they can get back the original cast. And who knows? If all goes well maybe we’ll see some more 90s comebacks. Really Full House, Family Matters A Lot, Organic and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Well, maybe not, but I’m just saying…
Fall into the season with this fantastic cake recipe!
For my boyfriend’s birthday this year, I decided to make him a taste of home by going all out with the flavors of fall. We’re out in Los Angeles now and it’s 100 degrees in October so his mid-western side starts craving some toasty pecans, pumpkins and warm goodies.
I found a recipe for an Everything Fall Cupcake on the Cupcake Project website here. Her particular version is a bit more complicated than mine because it involves baking a mini cupcake into a bigger one. Love the idea, but for a birthday I wanted an actual cake!
I pretty much followed the recipes to a tee with a few exceptions. Just to make things easier, I’ll post all the links to the specific recipes as well. It got a little confusing for me jumping back and forth between them all.
I started off by making the pumpkin maple rum batter and pouring it into a greased 8″ round. The recipe she gives is for 12 cupcakes so it was perfect for one 8″ round.
While that was in the oven, I got to work on the apple cobbler cake. The recipe called for lemon extract, but I couldn’t find any so I used vanilla instead. Turned out just fine IMHO, but make sure NOT to use lemon juice. The acid in the juice will mess with the chemistry of the cake and this recipe involves baking soda. Ever put lemon juice and baking soda together? Volcano! Also, if I did it again I would probably chop up the apples into larger chunks. I did them too small and after they baked down no one could really tell they were in there.
Next was the brown sugar frosting. I’m pretty new to making my own frosting and this one had me a bit worried what with the boiling sugar and such, but it was actually really easy. Just make sure to keep stirring this stuff. It’ll start to puff up and look a little crazy, but don’t worry. Just keep stirring… Just keep stirring…
The cinnamon cream cheese frosting was the last thing to make and oh my goodness was it good! The recipe says to add cinnamon to taste, but stick with the amount she gives (1 1/2 tsp. I believe). It was absolutely perfect and I may or may not have eaten a spoonful of it as I was waiting for the cakes to cool.
While the cakes were cooling, I sprayed some cooking oil on a baking sheet and place a single layer of pecan halves on it. Popped them in the oven at 350 and in about 5 minutes I was smelling the delicious goodness of toasted pecans.
When both cakes were ready to go, I put the pumpkin layer on my cake plate and filled it with the brown sugar frosting. In a happy accident, part of the pumpkin cake stuck to the bottom of the baking pan as I was removing it and I was able to use the brown sugar frosting to fill in what was missing. It worked out great!
I stacked the apple cobbler cake on top and iced the whole thing with cinnamon cream cheese frosting. To add a tiny bit of detail, I grabbed a spoon and made a swirl design starting from the outside of the cake. You can’t see it super well, but I thought it made for a cleaner look. I piled some toasted pecans in the center and called it a cake!
I’d suggest storing this one in the fridge because of the cream cheese. It also caused the brown sugar to firm up a little turning it into another pseudo-layer, which was kind of neat.
All in all, everyone really seemed to enjoy this cake. It was dense, sweet and absolutely everything fall.
I did it! I finally managed to stick with a workout program and see it through! I finished Insanity!
If you aren’t familiar with the program, it’s a super intense 60-day interval training cardio workout designed by fitness master, Shaun T. He’s an incredibly awesome motivator and really pushes you to your limits. So, how were my results?
Well, here’s the thing… I actually took three months to do what I should have done in two months. I did a lot of traveling over the summer and tried to do the workouts while I was gone, but sometimes I just had to give it a break and spend time with the people I went to visit. That being said, I still feel like I got a lot out of the program.
I’m in my early twenties and over the past year I have really altered my eating habits to try and give my body what it needs to function properly. If you eat junk, how can you ask your body to give you positive and super-charged energy, right? So eating healthy and staying hydrated have been priorities for me. Unfortunately, working out was not. That is until my boyfriend’s brother threw Insanity at us.
The program starts with a fit test to judge what kind of shape you’re in. WOW! That was an eye-opener. I knew I wasn’t totally fit like I was when I had a gym membership and went to dance practice six days a week, but man that was definitely a reality check. I should say here that even Shaun T suggests really paying attention to your body during this test. If it is excruciating and you know you’re way overdoing it, seriously consider starting with an easier program first to work up to Insanity. And as always, check with your physician to make sure you are able to do such an intense cardio workout.
So, here’s what I thought: Insanity does work, but there is a catch. No weights, no bands, no equipment means that it all depends on you. If you’re not pushing yourself and doing the moves correctly, you will not get the results you want. Shaun T is a great motivator with all his boom-hah’s and check-it-out’s and does take time to explain the moves (though sometimes I think he should be more thorough) so if you pay attention, you’ll be fine.
At the end of three months, I’ve dropped just one pound (I’m 5’4″ and I went down to 115) and kept the same pant size, but I have noticed that I feel stronger. I definitely amped up my abs and legs. Oh yeah, get ready for a ridiculous amount of squats in various forms. Jumping squats, squats with punches, squats with bounces and just plain ‘ole squats. Seriously, my quads were on fire every time.
If I did it again I would absolutely follow the program more religiously and make sure to push myself to the max every time. Toward the end I started getting a little bored and tired of the same video so I knew I wasn’t killing it like I should. I might also add that as far as arm strength and building bulk muscle, this isn’t the way to go. There are definitely a lot of pushups, but without weight it’s hard to really max out. I know my boyfriend felt like he lost a lot of upper body strength just doing Insanity. Maybe P90X and Insanity at the same time? That would be Beach Body madness!
All in all it’s a great program for getting back into shape or adding an awesome cardio workout to your routine. You really do have to stick with it though. I accidentally took 3 days off in a row and when I went back to it, I was a mess. So, if you’re looking to totally whip your tush into shape and sweat like crazy, head on over to their site, here! They offer a money back guarantee and a free t-shirt if you post your results. All right now, let’s GOOOOO!
